Juniata College was founded in 1876 and is an independent, co-educational college of liberal arts and sciences. The College is located on 110 acres in the central Pennsylvanian mountains and offers a lively campus to its students. In order to meet the growing needs for student housing, Juniata College is working to add a new state-of-the-art living facility.
The project includes a three-story, 22,000 SF residential hall located at the northern end of campus adjacent to the soccer complex, College Avenue and Cold Spring Road.
The basic construction of the building is wood-framed bearing walls that also serve as the lateral force resisting system. Steel columns and girders support the wood floor framing at the central Lobby between the two building wings. Stair and elevator construction is reinforced masonry, and roof framing is prefabricated wood trusses with attic spaces to accommodate mechanical equipment. Foundations are a shallow reinforced concrete
system.
